I’ve always thought the way I listened to music was weird, but could never get anyone else to tell me if it was, or even seemingly understand. For basically as long as I can remember, I have a small cluster of songs that I listen to more or less exclusively. I occasionally stray out to find new songs or playlists but the ocean of new and unexplored music is so vast that it intimidates me, and I crawl back to what’s familiar. Any time I find a new song for my rotation it seems more or less by accident. The rest of the Panel has, at various points, tried to make me listen to new things, with almost zero success (for which I do feel bad, but clearly not bad enough).

So now I’m making it Substack’s problem. The point of this series, broadly, is to find new music to listen to, sourced by the Panel, readers, or both. Honestly, whoever at this point. But to do that, I have to do something I’m really quite terrible at, which is share my subjective tastes without feeling embarrassed about it. So, here is my playlist of favorites/bangers.

Feel free to recommend anything that comes to mind from that playlist. Deeper cuts by artists already in there (I don’t listen to discographies, so there’s a good chance I haven’t heard it!), bands you think I’d love, bands you think I’d hate. Whatever, I want to try all of it, and in the next episode I’ll go over those recommendations and share what I thought of them.

Until next time.
